2011 is only a couple of days away and most people are very much optimistic that the new year ahead of us will be much better than 2010.

Of course, all of these purported lucky charms and crystals are not at all affordable.

I was looking good books in a National Bookstore outlet in a mall here near our place and I was surprised to see Bob Ong’s books selling like pancakes. He has already a good number of books, despite the fact that many still wonder who the real person behind the famous Bob Ong is.

I first encountered Bob Ong through a college friend. She has the two Bob Ong books, the green and yellow one. And after reading the two books, I was already so much amazed by the wit and humor of the man.

New Philippine Peso Bills Designs (Photos)

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas or BSP has already revealed to the public the New Philippine Peso Bills designs. President Aquino most recently graced the occasion of the official launching of the new designs of the official currency of the Philippines.

BSP said on Friday that all the new designs of Philippine denominations will be made available to the public before December 25, 2010, just in time before Christmas Day.

Fe De La Cruz, official spokesperson of BSP said,

“Uunahin muna namin yun low denominations na P20 and P50 dahil 'yun din ang hinahanap ng marami pag pasko na pambigay ng Aguinaldo, but the other denominations will follow, by the first week of January lahat ng denominations available na.”

The new Philippine peso bills are said to have more security features and are more updated in terms of its campaign of tourism.

Vizconde Massacre Supreme Court Decision

The Supreme Court of the Philippines has acquitted Hubert Webb and all other suspects implicated to the gruesome crime of the decade, the Vizconde Massacre.

With the vote of 7-4-4, all the suspects that were convicted by the lower court through Judge Tolentino and the Court of Appeals were released from prison in the Bilibid Prisons. Mr. Lauro Vizconde received the news with great sadness and at the same time yearning for justice for his family that were murdered at their own home. Mr. Vizconde was asking the justices that with the decision to free the suspects, how will he ever receive justice and know the “real” perpetrators.

The Supreme Court on rendering its judgment had found the prosecutor’s handling of the case and all the evidences presented weak. In particular is the prime witness Jessica Alfaro’s credibility that the court found without any merit. Moreover, the court gave credence to all the documentary evidences that Webb presented showing that he was in the United States when the massacre happened.

WikiLeaks Founder Julian Assange Arrested in UK and Jailed Without Bail

The founder of online whistleblower site WikiLeaks, Julian Assange, was arrested on Tuesday by British police authorities.

MSNBC reported that Assange, who has been running from an extradition order by Sweden, voluntarily turned himself over to Scotland Yard. He then went to present himself over to the London court accompanied by his British lawyers Jennifer Robinson and Mark Stephens.
During the hour-long court hearing, Assange was presented with all the details of the alleged sex offense filed against him in Sweden. All of the allegations he straightforwardly denied. The WikiLeaks founder said that he is going to fight the extradition order of Sweden. One moment during the court hearing, Assange was asked by the judge if he will agree to be extradited. The 39-year old Australian said, "I do not consent."

Judge Howard Riddle believed that Assange may not show up on the next scheduled hearing. He then ruled and denied the petition for bail of Assange as he was deemed a flight risk. This despite of the efforts of some Australian journalists to give the court the assurance that they will make sure that Assange will not flee out of the country.

With his petition for bail denied by the British court, he is to be under the custody of the British police authorities. They did not reveal though where Julian Assange will be particularly jailed for the time being.

The case against Julian Assange stemmed from the complaints of two Swedish women in August. They accused Assange of sexually molesting them without using a condom and without their consent.

According to Daily Mail, American authorities welcomed the arrest and detention of Assange. Pat Robert Gates, the US Secretary of Defense, was elated by the news by saying, "That sounds like good news to me."

The US government is purportedly preparing cases of espionage and some others against Assange in connection with the WikiLeaks posting on its website confidential and sensitive US diplomatic cables.

Assange’s arrest is said to come as big blow to the WikiLeaks organization after it has suffered many financial and technical problems due to the confidential documents it has released online. But WikiLeaks is not bucking down, saying that it still has on its custody some of the most damaging and sensitive US cable documents that will be released in due time.

Chanukah 2010, Hanukkah Celebration Starts December 1

Chanukah 2010: The Jews already started the first day of the Hanukkah celebration or the festival of lights on December 1, 2010. The celebration will start at the sundown of the 1st of December up to the sundown of the 9th day of the same month.

Hannukah is one of the many minor Jewish holidays on their calendars. It is actually a commemoration of the re-dedication of the second temple of Jerusalem that was rebuilt after suffering from desecration of conquerors of the Israelites. For each night, a candle is lit until all the candles are completed.

On 2011 it will be celebrated on December 20-28.

Many Jewish hollywood celebrities are also joining the festival. Adam Sandler for one has even made a song about it.
