Birkin Scammer Sarah Evangelista and Jake Evangelista

Birkin Scam:  A scammer is on the loose!  And this is no ordinary scam, or the kind of scam that we got used to in the Philippines, wherein ordinary persons with their hard-earned money were duped due to fraudulent schemes.

This scam now called as the “Birkin Scam” allegedly involved defrauding rich people that amounts to around a whopping P500 million.

Sarah and Jake Evangelista as the Alleged Birkin Scammers

According to reports, the people involved in the Birkin Scam is a socialite couple though the person who was really at the forefront of it is a person allegedly named Sarah Evangelista.  The husband's involvement in the scam is yet to be directly established though reports say that it is most likely that the husband knows the workings of his wife.

She is said to be a socialite who defrauded friends, especially her best of friends, using a pyramiding scheme involving millions of pesos in the trade of high-end bags, in particular, the Birkin bags.  Her husband was allegedly named Jake Evangelista, said to be working under a politician.

As of this writing, the Facebook and Twitter accounts of the Birkin Scammer has already been deleted, the same accounts that used to flaunt her extravagant lifestyle.  Cases have already been filed against her, though the suspect is said to be already in hiding, most likely in the United States.

Check her for photos/pictures of the alleged Birkin Scammer which here posted all over the net by websites.

$1 Bill to be Phased Out for US Government to Save $5.5 Billion?

The economic downturn in the previous years has certainly put many countries cringing; even the superpowers realized how vulnerable they are. Several countries asked to be bailed out while others relied on different stimulus plans and pieces of legislations to restructuring. But all efforts proved that redemption is not yet at hand.

The US government is one of those that was hardly-hit by the economic meltdown. Unemployment is still high and private and public debts continue to pile up.

With all these serious economic complications, the US government through President Obama approached things by cutting down budgets and spending.

With all these budget cuts, many sectors also tried to think of ways on how the debt-stricken US government could save more.

One idea that came up is by phasing out the $1 paper bill and change it into a dollar coin.

The U.S. Government Accountability Office reportedly made a proposal that was submitted to the Federal Reserve and Treasury of phasing out the $1 bill and replace it instead with a $1 coin. On their proposal, they said that the US government could save at least $5.5 billion during the next 30 years!

The reason? Because paper bills have shorter life span and in effect takes a lot of public fund for printing new bills unlike the coin.

Sure the US is really tightening its belt huh.

Borders Files for Bankruptcy

Borders Group Inc., one of the largest bookstores in the Unites States has already filed for bankruptcy according to several news reports on Wednesday. The filing for bankruptcy protection by Borders was attributed to the steady decline of sales in the past couple of years. The declining sales hurt the company especially with managing its outstanding debts.

The filing for bankruptcy by Border Group Inc. will cause the closure of almost one-third of its retail stores across the country.

As of December 25 of last year, Borders has listed its liabilities to be around $1.29 billion while its assets stand at $1.28 billion.

Borders Group President Mike Edward said that the company “does not have the capital resources it needs to be a viable competitor." Reports said that the steep popularity of online and digital books made mostly affected the steady decline in sales of the book store chain over the years.

Early this year, the company had already hinted of its filing for bankruptcy if could not meet its financial needs and could not find any new source of capital for the company.

Affordable Home Improvement Equity Loans

The United States has been thrust into an economic meltdown last year as home equity loans were sold like pancakes though banks were not sure of the financial standing of their clientele and these entire home and mortgage loans were unsecured.

Today, the economy of the United States is slowly getting back on track though many numbers and indicators are still not so good.

One of the most popular loans made my clientele is the Home Improvement Loan especially during the time when many states in the US were devastated by hurricanes.

What is a Home Improvement Loan? Here is simple definition from the FFIEC:

”A home improvement loan is (a) any dwelling-secured loan to be used, at least in part, for repairing, rehabilitating, remodeling, or improving a dwelling or the real property on which the dwelling is located, and (b) any non-dwelling-secured loan (i) that is to be used, at least in part, for one or more of those purposes and (ii) that is classified as a home improvement loan by the institution. “

Many banks are offering Home Improvement Loans like Chase, CitiFinancial among others while the Federal Housing Administration or FHA has its own program also for Home Improvement Loans. FHA Home improvement loan says on its website:

“affordable home improvement loans by allowing loans up to $25,000 without any equity in the home. In otherwords, the loan can exceed the value of the home.”

The most important thing before getting a home loan though is to make sure to examine first your financial standing and capabilities before getting one in order not to get in more financial debts and trouble in the future.

Small Business Franchise Business Opportunities in the Philippines

Making and or starting a Franchise business is one of the most successful business strategy and framework especially in the last decades in the Philippines.

In a country that is fueled by domestic consumption and spending specifically on areas that are considered to be the basic needs of man, small franchise business opportunities are the most usual business platform that is being utilized.

Franchising “is the practice of using another firm's successful business model” according to Wikipedia.

This definition alone makes franchising very enticing as one is already assured of a business system has been proven to work, training, a brand and support from the main business owners. Franchising is like making chains or networks of stores.

In the Philippines, franchising is everywhere, from foods stall and carts, perfurmery, dining outlets among others.

But franchising a business is not easy. It is also doomed to fail especially if one is thinking that since he is using a proven business model, he does not need to do his own homework.

A very good way before starting out in this kind of business venture is to ask the assistance and guidance of business consultants or the Philippine Association of Franchisees.
