Facebook, in a move to accommodate a growing number of users with different relationship statuses and communities, has added to more options for users to choose from.
Facebook added new relationship status options for users to choose for their user profiles. The two new relationship statuses are "in a domestic partnership" and "in a civil union."
The new options are to be made available by the social networking giant in US, UK, France, Canada and Australia starting Thursday.
Andrew Noyes, Facebook’s manager of public policy communications said of the new options:
"This has been a highly requested feature from users. We want to provide options for people to genuinely and authentically reflect their relationships on Facebook."
One of the groups that Facebook reportedly consulted for this new profile feature is a group of that includes LGBT [lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender] organizations.
