Cebu Pacific Sued for Discriminating and Humiliating Special Children

Seems like the slogan of Cebu Pacific “Fly All” is not all true as parents of a special child sued the company for discriminatory and humiliating actions against their child. This for the second time around.

Stella Santos according to her story said that the crew of a Cebu Pacific flight bound for Manila last December 23 forced her son Harvy who has a Down Syndrome was in the same flight with the previous parents Marites Alcantara with special child John Arvin, who first brought up the issue against the Gokongwei airline company.

"I refused to agree with them. I said 'If you will push through with this, I will sue you. This is our right.”

Mrs. Santos recalled that a Chinese-looking crew of Cebu Pacific asked them to get off the plane though it did not really explain the reasons for having such humiliating action against them. They were rather asked to book on another flight for Manila only to find out later that her son’s condition was the very reason they were asked to get off the plane and not join the flight.

Mrs. Santos and Mrs. Alcantara were told that it was against the policy of Cebu Pacific to fly with passenger who is mentally ill. But these erring parents clarified that their sons’ conditions are not considered as mental illness.

Cebu Pacific on the other hand has already issued a public apology for the incident.

"Cebu Pacific has no policy that discriminates against persons with special needs.”

And seems like the incident will not let these parents let it pass unnoticed and will file a case against Cebu Pacific for violating Republic Act 7610 that protects children with special condition despite the company calling them many times asking for apology and giving them 4 round trip tickets.
