And it was the young Italian Mario Balotelli who made the
big win for the team, despite a consolation goal from Germany . The 21-year old striker playing for Manchester City scored with a header. Mesut Ozil on the other made a penalty score late
in the game which just added to their 16-year drought of a major title for
their country.
"We played exactly how we had wanted to," said Cesare Prandelli of the Italian team.
After 120 minutes of play, the game ended in a penalty
shootout between Spain and Portugal . The first two kicks were saved by the
goalkeeper of each team, and from then own both teams scored. But on the third kick of Portugal , the
ball hit the bar and bounced out side. It
was Ces Fabregas who sealed the deal for the Spanish team with his kick hitting
the bar and bouncing inside the net.
Star player Cristiano Ronaldo did not have the chance to make
his kick after being placed fifth in the line up.
The Italians wants to make a big upset this season against
the defending champions and powerhouse Spanish team.
Despite some critics saying that the game of Spain is
boring, their players and coach said that they will continue with their game
plan, as the same game plan has led them many times to the finals and
eventually championships.
