Over the years, failure in education has been seen by many as the main culprit of poverty in the Philippines. The lack of financial support and clear direction of the government on its education portfolio has created a milieu wherein quality education is now equal to exclusive and very expensive schools.
Some of these schools are De La Salle University, Ateneo De Manila – University and Univeristy of Sto. Tomas.
Though these schools also offer scholarships and grants to students, these are not open to a wide range of youth who wants to get the best of education and training. Almost always, these scholarships and grants requires applicants to be included in the qualification of those who are called “deserving students.”
This raises therefore the issue of education as being exclusive instead of inclusive.
Though these scholarships help some of the youth, it also at the same unfortunately leave many out in the cold.
