The New York Times is going to stick with its article about Noynoy Aquino and the Hacienda Luisita that went on print Wednesday. On that article, a member of the Conjuangco lan who own the vast majority of the sugar plantation was quoted to have said that the family “will not let go” of the 4,500-hectare Hacienda Luisita.
This article is a big blow to Noynoy Aquino who is running for the Presidency as he has promised that he will make it a point that the plantation be distributed to farmers.
Noynoy Aquino reacted to the article and said that Fernando Conjuangco, CEO of the holding firm that runs Hacienda Luisita may have just been misquoted by New York Times.
But New York Times on its part said that there was no mistake as the interview was recorded on tape and is readily available to the public.
“We stand by our March 16, 2010, story on Hacienda Luisita. Our interview with Mr. Fernando Cojuangco . . . was recorded. If Mr. Cojuangco wishes the tape to be released to the public, we will gladly do so.”
