World's Tallest Building to Rise in Dubai - Burj Dubai

The world’s tallest building/skyscrapper may soon rise on Dubai despite being saddled lately by one of its major company declaring its incapacity to pay its debts.

The tallest building will be named Burj Dubai, and the project will be spearheaded by Emaar, a giant property firm partly-owned by the government and only revealed that the building will rise to exceed 800 meters (2,640 feet), higher than Taiwan's Taipei 101 tower (508 meters).

Designer of the tallest tower is Bill Baker, an engineer and partner in Chicago-based Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (SOM).

Some information about the building: 160-floor tower; will contain 330,000 cubic meters (11.55 million cubic feet) of concrete and 31,400 tons of steel; can be seen from as far as 95 kilometers (59 miles) away; 57 lifts; 1,044 apartments; 49 floors of office space; and a hotel bearing the Giorgio Armani logo.

It will be the centerpiece of a 20-billion-dollar new shopping district.
